Srinagar: Militants tonight shot dead a youth in Sopore town of Baramulla district, official sources said here. Shamsuddin Mir alias Jana was shot at by militants outside his residence at Chanakhan in Sopore town, at around 8.30 pm, the sources said. The 25-year-old youth died on the spot, they said. Mir, a roadside vendor by occupation, was killed as the ultras suspected him to be an informer of the security forces, the sources said. No militant outfit has claimed responsibility for the attack so far. Meanwhile, one person died and four others, including two police officers, were injured when clashes broke out between supporters and rivals of slain Jamiat-e-Ahli Hadees chief Moulvi Showkat Ahmad Shah here. Sixteen people have been arrested so far in connection with the clashes, officials said. Clashes broke out between the rival groups of Jamiat-e-Ahli Hadees in Nowgam area in the outskirts of the city last night, in which one person was critically injured, they said. Mohammad Ismail Bhat, who received severe head injury, was admitted to SKIMS hospital, Soura, where he succumbed this morning, they said. Two other persons sustained minor injuries in the clashes, they said. As police rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control, the rival parties starting pelting stones at the security personnel, they said, adding two Assistant Sub-Inspectors Mohammad Akbar and Mushtaq Ahmad were injured in the stone pelting. The Jamiat chief was killed in an IED blast on April 8 outside a Mosque in Maisuma area of the city. Police has arrested three persons in connection with Shah's murder identified as Abdul Ghani Dar alias Abdullah Ghazali, president of 'Sautul Haq' (the voice of truth), a radical politico-religious outfit and two others Javed Ahmad Munshi and Nisar Ahmad Khan. Reports said that trouble started in the area when a group of people objected to the sermon of an Imam in the mosque being managed by the Jamiat Ahli Hadees. The Imam owing allegiance to Saut-ul-Haq was asked to leave the mosque and this did not go well with his supporters. This led to an altercation between the two sides and in no time the whole affair turned violent. Both the sides attacked each other with sticks and some of them used sharp edged weapons. During the altercation one person identified as Mohammad Ismail Bhat was seriously injured. While some reports suggested that Ismail was attacked with an axe some others suggested that he suffered many blows on account of continuous beating up with sticks. This morning a group of youth carried the body of Ismail to the press enclave here and raised slogans against the 'killers'. They alleged that the police personnel were present on the site when the incident took place but no action was taken against the persons who carried out the murderous attack. It would be in place to mention here that Jamiat and SuH are at loggerheads ever since the police statement that Maulana Showkat was killed by Abdul Gani Dar alias Abdullah Ghazali, president SuH in connivance with Javed Ahmad Munshi and Nisar Ahmad Khan. On Friday the Russu-Beerwah unit of SuH staged protests against the police version that the organization is involved in the killing of Jamiat president. They alleged that police is unnecessarily dragging the SuH in the killing of Maulana Showkat's killing.
