Two More Arrested In Moulana Showkat Case1 May 2011
Srinagar: Police have arrested two more persons during investigation into the assassination of Jamiat Ahl-e-Hadith (JAH) President Moulana Showkat Shah, sources told Greater Kashmir. The two persons, they said, have been identified as Abdul Majid Dar Madni of Ompora Budgam and Altaf Ahmad of Gopalpora Chadoora. “Madni was in Delhi. He was detained after he landed at the Srinagar Airport on April 27,” a highly placed source, privy to the investigation process, said, adding, “Altaf was picked up from Batamaloo area on April 29.” Sources said Madni was a member of religious-political organization, Sout-ul-Haq, while Altaf Ahmad was a former militant of Tehreek-ul-Mujahideen. “Both have been lodged in Maisuma police station for investigation,” the police sources said. Besides, they said, they are expecting another major arrest in connection with the case. “He is a senior government official. His name too is figuring among the suspects,” the sources said. Police has also quizzed a number of JAH members in connection with the case by calling them to police stations. “So far the investigations have revealed that the accused are mainly those who opposed Moulana’s moves on different issues initiated by him in the JAH,” they said. “During raids we have recovered letters and documents which can prove to be vital material evidence to reach to the culprits.” The Senior Superintendent of Police, Srinagar, Syed Ashiq Hussain Bukhari admitted that two persons have been arrested. “We are questioning them in connection with the investigation into the Moulana Showkat case,” he told Greater Kashmir. “Rest of the details cannot be shared.” Earlier police claimed to have arrested three members of a core group allegedly involved in the killing of Moulana Showkat. On April 23, police raided Jamiat Ahl-e-Hadith (JAH) headquarters at Barbarshah here and seized documents, which it said, has bearing on the case. Recently police claimed that they have identified the main accused in Shah’s killing, who allegedly issued “order” to assassinate him. Moulana Showkat Ahmad Shah was assassinated in a low intensity Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast outside a Masjid at Maisuma here on April 8.
