Return Home, Help Solve Kashmir: Azadi Camp9 June 2011
Srinagar: The separatist camp, including both factions of the Hurriyat Conference, the JKLF and the Democratic Freedom Party, on Thursday extended greetings to the Pandit community on the occasion of the Mela Khir Bhawani, appealing to the migrants to play their role in resolving the Kashmir issue by returning to their homeland. The chairman of the JKLF, Muhammad Yasin Malik, who was among a number of separatist leaders to visit the Khir Bhawani temple for solidarity with the Pandit community, said that the warmth showered on the devotees by local Muslims was in keeping with high Islamic values, and an answer to communal and divisive forces. Expressing hope that the migrant Pandit community would return home soon to again live among their Muslim brethren, Malik deplored the Panun Kashmir activist, Ashwini Kumar Chrangoo, for repeating his demand of a separate homeland for the migrants. “Kashmiri Muslims did not forgot their Pandit brothers even in the severest of trials when their sons were being killed, martyrs graveyards filled and intellectuals liquidated,” he said, adding that the Panun Kashmir statement would serve no purpose but to create a gulf between the two communities. Shabir Ahmad Shah of the DFP said that the civilisational and cultural bonds between Kashmiri Muslims and Pandits were two strong to be broken, and asserted that the Kashmir issue pertained to both communities. “We want for Kashmiri Pandits is no different from what we want for ourselves – a life of freedom, dignity and honour where everyone can hold his head high,” he said.
