Former Army Brigadier Joins NC In Jammu3 July 2011

Jammu: A former senior Army officer on Saturday joined the ruling National Conference (NC) in Jammu and Kashmir and expressed his willingness to work for the ex-servicemen community, families of Army martyrs and war widows in the state. 'I have joined the ruling NC with an aim to serve the people of the State in general but three lakh ex-servicemen in Jammu and Kashmir in particular,' Retired Brig K S Jaswal told reporters at a function organised at National Conference (NC) headquarters on Saturday. Asserting that ex-servicemen need full attention of the government, Brig Jaswal said 'as a son of the soil, I will work for ex-servicemen, martyrs and war widows and iron out the problems confronting them in the state'. Brig Jaswal, who served in various positions in the Army including sub-area commander in Pathankot, said he was convinced that the NC and its programmes and policies are people friendly and secular. 'Chief Minsiter Omar Abdullah is heading the state with ability and new vision of development. The state is witnessing development phase under his rule which prompted him to join NC and serve the people of the state,' he said. Welcoming him to the NC, party's Provincial President, Jammu region, Rattan Lal Gupta said 'party has been strengthened by joining of the former Army officer. National Conference's doors are always open for the people who believe in policies and programmes of the party, Gupta said. 'People like Brig Jaswal are joinging our party as they know that the party leadership is committed to equally develop all the three regions of J&K,' he said. Praising the Chief Minister for ensuring peaceful and smooth Panchayat polls in the state, Gupta said that Panchayats are basic foundation of the democracy and empowering Panches and Sarpanches will usher in a new era of development in the state.
