Army Man Killed In LoC Gunfight6 August 2011
Srinagar: An army man was killed in exchange of firing with militants who tried to infiltrate through Line of Control in border district of Kupwara, official sources said. They said army men was injured when an encounter broke out between troops and militants yesterday in Bangus valley of Kupwara district. “The injured army man was rushed to army hospital, where he succumbed to injuries,” they said. They said the infiltration bid of the militants was foiled. Meanwhile, an army spokesman said the search operations are on along the LoC in Kupwara district where the army has repelled four infiltration attempts during last eight days in which four militants and three army men were killed. 'Yes, there has been an increase in infiltration attempts from across the border in the Valley during the last few days,' army spokesman Lt Colonel J S Brar told a wire news agency. He said in Kupwara sector, troops have foiled four incursion attempts by militants during last eight days. “We have killed four militants in the resulting encounters while we lost three troopers, including two jawans and a subedar,' he said. Brar said infiltration bids by various terrorist groups usually increase when autumn sets in. “This is done in order to ensure maximum infiltration possible before the mountain passes get closed due to heavy snowfall each year. Because of the alertness of troops guarding the LoC and their round the clock surveillance, we have successfully foiled such attempts this year,' he said.
