Geelani Rebukes Mehmood, Says UN Resolutions Only Solution19 September 2011
Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference (G) Monday said the implementation of United Nations resolutions was the “only” solution to Kashmir issue acceptable to it, saying any “deviation” would cause “irreparable damage to the freedom movement.” Pertinently, former Prime Minister of Pakistan administered Kashmir, Barrister Sultan Mehmood Choudary, who reached here yesterday, had said the United Nations resolutions on Kashmir could be put behind to find a solution to Kashmir issue. Although he termed them as a base for the settlement of Kashmir issue, Mehmood had said, “We are ready to move beyond the UN resolutions.” 'The Majlis Shoora (advisory council) of Hurriyat Conference which met here today said Kashmiris had not sacrificed for self rule, autonomy, joint control, soft borders,' according to a statement issued here. “Hurriyat would never accept any solution which doesn’t take the sacrifices and wishes of Kashmiris into account, even if the entire world develops a consensus on it,” the Shoora headed by Syed Ali Shah Geelani said. “The only acceptable solution to Kashmir issue lies in the implementation of UN resolutions. It is these resolutions which make our case strong and our freedom movement would sustain an irreparable damage if the Kashmiri nation gives up on the UN resolutions,” the members said. Strongly denouncing the continued “house arrest” of Geelani, the Shoora termed the government curbs as “worst kind of state terrorism and deliberate ploy to keep the popular leader away from masses.” The Shoora members said there was no justification to link Geelani’s house arrest with the law and order situation in Kashmir, according to a statement.
