Interlocutors’ Recos Have No Bearings On Kashmir Issue: Hurriyat (M)23 September 2011
Srinagar: The Mirwaiz Umar Farooq-led Hurriyat Conference Friday dismissed the ‘unilateral’ recommendations of New Delhi’s interlocutors on Kashmir as meaningless, asserting that Pakistan’s involvement was imperative for the ‘final’ resolution of the issue. “These recommendations will have no bearing, positive or negative, on the Kashmir situation, as Hurriyat believes that the final resolution of Kashmir issue is not possible without Pakistan’s involvement,” a statement issued here said. The amalgam said that Kashmiris were the principal party to the Kashmir dispute and their opinion and participation was key to the success of any political, diplomatic or dialogue process on the issue. “Any unilateral process in this regard will not only be unacceptable to Kashmiris but also unsuccessful. The historical, political and psychological aspects of Kashmir issue cannot be ignored,” the amalgam said. It added that economic development and political stability in India and Pakistan was directly linked to peace in the regions, which in turn was only possible if the two countries resolved all their issues, particularly Kashmir. “Therefore, India needs to shun the politics of excuses and double-speak and speak in unambiguous terms,” the amalgam said.
