Massive Anti-Israel Protests, 20 Injured In Clashes

Srinagar: More than 20 people including few cops were injured when police used force to foil various protest demonstrations against Israeli attacks on Palestine in Gaza. Students, journalists, separatist leaders and common people staged anti-Israel protests at different places to show solidarity with Palestine people. Reports said that soon after offering prayers at Jamia Masjid, hundreds of people took to streets and staged demonstrations against Israel at Nowhatta Chowk. Shouting anti-Israel and pro-freedom slogans, the protesters took out procession towards Saraf Kadal pelted stones on the cops, who had already been deployed on the roads in strength. Shouting anti-Israel, anti-India, anti-America and pro-freedom slogans, angry protesters took out a procession and marched through different lanes and bye-lanes. Police and CRPF troopers swung into action and fired tear-smoke shells to disperse them when the protestors resorted to heavy stone-pelting near Saraf Kadal. However, the protesters offered stiff resistance and continued attacking the cops with stones. Clashes also erupted at Maisuma locality of Srinagar after police foiled the protest demonstration of JKLF against Israeli action against Palestinians and their rally in connection with 'Quit Kashmir' campaign towards Lal Chowk. Reports said that a cop received injury when a stone hit him. Shutdown was also observed at Maisuma against the police action. However, the other markets of Lal Chowk remained open and public and private transport was plying normally on the roads. The students of Kashmir University also held a protest demonstration against Israeli bombings of the innocent Palestinian in Gaza. The protests were organized after the Friday prayers. Reports said that immediately after the Friday prayers scores of JKLF leaders and their supporters tried to lead a protest march towards Lal Chowk against the Israeli atrocities with innocent Palestinians and in connection with their Quit Kashmir programme. When the JKLF march reached near Budshah Chowk, a large contingent of police, prevent them from holding the demonstration. They arrested the JKLF supporters. The police action was responded by youths and they pelted stones towards the police. The police also resorted to lathi-charge to disperse them. The local traders downed their shutters and observed a shutdown after the Friday prayers against police action. Earlier, the party Chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik was arrested in a pre-dawn raid from his Maisuma residence. Malik was scheduled to stage a dharna in Lal Chowk in connection with the 'Quit Kashmir' campaign and against the Israeli bombing on Palestine. Students of Kashmir University on Friday afternoon held protests against Israeli action on people of Gaza in which scores of persons, including women and children, have been killed. Reports said that immediately after the congregational Friday prayers ended, the students assembled outside the University Mosque and shouted slogans against Israel. 'Down with Israel,' they shouted. Holding placards and banners, the students marched in the campus. The students also raised pro-freedom and anti-India slogans. The protesters demanded immediate end to the massacre of Muslims in Gaza. Expressing their solidarity with the Palestine people, Kashmiri journalists from different media organizations today held a protest demonstration at Press Enclave against innocent killings in Gaza by Israel. Holding banners and placards in their hands, the protesters said that Israelis are doing worst kind of human right violations and the international community is watching the entire incident as a mute spectator. Reports of anti anti-Israel protests were also reported from South Kashmir's Anantnag and Shopian town. The anti Israeli protests were also held in Baramulla, Sopore, Bandipora and several areas of central Kashmir after Friday prayers. Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani who continues to be under house arrest at his Hyderpora residence has appealed to the people to hold protest demonstrations after next Friday prayers in support of Parisians and against Israeli aggression against the Palestinians. The Geelani faction has also appealed people to hold post Friday prayers demonstrations on last Friday of Ramadan in solidarity with the martyrs of ongoing movement. Geelani has also condemned the atrocities being committing by Isreali against the Palestine. He also criticized the world community of maintaining silence on Israeli aggression in Gaza. JKLF senior leader Javaid Ahmad Mir along with other leaders also held protests against Israeli aggression and genocide against innocent Palestine. Mir criticizes the so called champions of world committee including UN, US and Europe. They had adopted mute spectator and criminal silence over Israeli aggression focusing on world communities. He said that the solution to Kashmir issue lies in implementation of UN resolution and not by vacating the UN office. Protesters raised anti-Israel slogans and in favour of Palestine and Kashmir. At least 90 people have been killed in the Israeli onslaught on Gaza in the last few days. National Front Chairman Nayeem Ahmad Khan also condemned the recent bombing of Israel on Gaza area of Palestine. He said that killing innocent and unarmed people, children and even women is a sheer violation of human rights so the whole world especially the Arab world should unite and take practical measures against Israel.
