: Dadsar village in the Tral area of south Kashmir has a reason to cheer as Anika Shabir and Shaheera of the village have secured the top two positions in the Class X state board exam. The examination results were declared today. Both study at Hajahad Public School in Awantipora town. Anika topped Class X by scoring 494 marks out of 500, while Shaheera secured the second rank by scoring 491 marks. She shares the second spot with three other girls. Dadsar village is grappling with militancy, poor roads and non-availability of electricity, but that has not deterred the girls from chasing their dreams. The girls, who relied on home study, credited their school teachers for the achievement. 'My hometown lacks infrastructure, but I did not let that hamper my studies. My parents have been a big support. I have chosen to stay away from the social media since it takes away a lot of time,' Anika said. Hajahad Public School principal Imtiyaz Ahmad said most of the students in the school were from the lower-middle class. 'We charge between Rs 400 and Rs 500 as tuition fee from each student and ensure they do not feel the need for private tuition. We have employed best teachers,' he said. Shamikha Ali of Presentation Convent School in Rajbagh, Naseelah of Linton Hall School in Rajbagh and Jasifa Showkat of Green Valley School in Elahi Bagh shared the second rank with Shaheera. In all, 50,535 candidates appeared in the exams from the Valley, of whom 32,678 cleared it.
