Srinagar: In an act of forces' high-handedness, a senior journalist of Srinagar-based English daily was 'assaulted' by the cops escorting the cavalcade of ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP) senior leader and Agriculture Minister Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura. Javed Malik said he was travelling in his car with his spouse in Bagh-e-Mehtab area of the City here when the personnel thrashed and hurled abuses at him. Despite proving his identity, Malik said the men punched him and misbehaved with his wife. He alleged that the PDP minister signaled the guards to thrash him. 'They (guards) were so rude. They kept on beating me despite my wife pleading before them,' Malik said. He said he was taken to police station and alleged that the PDP minister told Station House Officer (SHO) to book him. 'He called me a drunkard,' the scribe said. Despite repeated attempts, the PDP minister could not be contacted for his comments. Meanwhile, Hurriyat Conference (M) in a statement has condemned the thrashing of the scribe. National Conference (NC) has also expressed shock and disgust over the assault and demanded the arrest of accused cops.
