JCO Killed In Pak Sniping In Nowgam Sector

Srinagar: Indian and Pakistani troops today exchanged heavy firing along the Line of Control (LoC) in Nowgam sector during which an Army officer was killed in Pakistani sniping. Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) Naib Subedar Krishna Singh, 44, of 3 Kumaon Regiment was critically injured when Pakistani troops fired at a post in Nowgam sector along the Line of Control (LoC) at 12.30 pm today. The JCO, received single sniper bullet in the head and was evacuated to nearby MI room where doctors declared him as brought dead. Krishna, a resident of Uttarakhand was guarding the Badalpost post near the LoC when the incident occurred. Reports said that the intermittent firing was on since morning between Army and Rangers. And at 12.30 pm, the Pakistani Special Forces restored to sniping and fired at Naib Subedar Krishana Singh, killing him on the spot. The killing led to strong reaction from Army and they fired mortars at the Pakistani positions. The Pakistani Rangers also fired mortars and intermittent firing was on when last reports reached in. Sources said that Pakistani Rangers also suffered casualties, however, it was not confirmed. This is the third sniping incident in Nowgam sector this year. Earlier, two Border Security Force (BSF) jawans were killed in Pakistani sniping on July 5 and July 9 this year. The Pakistani Special Forces were usually doing sniping in Rajouri and Poonch sectors against BSF and this year they have started in Nowgam sector. Sources said that the sniping and firing at Indian positions was aimed at providing cover to the infiltrators who are in large numbers waiting on the LoC in Neelam valley opposite Nowgam sector for cross over.
