Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir High Court today directed the authorities to stop all construction activities at Gulmarg ski resort in north Kashmir. The court also directed the police to seize the vehicles carrying construction material to the resort. 'All construction activities being carried out at Gulmarg are stopped forthwith,' a division bench of the High Court said in its orders today. The HC is hearing a PIL on Gulmarg. Former Chief Minister and National Conference working president Omar Abdullah had recently expressed concern over 'massive construction' activity at Gulmarg. The High Court directed the authorities, including Deputy Commissioner, Baramulla, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Baramulla, and the authorities of the Gulmarg Development Authority, to ensure that no construction activity is carried out at Gulmarg. The HC directions came following a report by the Baramulla SSP, in which grave irregularities were pointed out as far as the renovation and repairs being carried out by hoteliers and others at Gulmarg are concerned. The court further directed sealing of structures on which construction continued in violation of the orders. The High Court has also directed the authorities to shift the Assistant Executive Engineer posted in the Gulmarg Development Authority in view of the situation arising due to the illegal construction at the resort. The court has also sought compliance reports from the government and other authorities before the next hearing in the last week of December.
