Srinagar: Small groups of youths clashed with police throughout the day in Bemina against the killing of Sheikh Tanveer Sultan in Kud on Monday. Scores of youths marched from his home at Ibrahim Colony, Bemina, towards the main road, shouting pro-freedom, anti-India and anti-government slogans. However, dozens of policemen who had been deployed to prevent protests, stopped the youth from protesting peacefully. The protesters then pelted the policemen with stones. Police fired dozens of teargas canisters during the day. The clashes intensified in the evening when Tanveer's body was expected to arrive from Kud in Udhampur district of Jammu region. A police official said the body will be handed over to the family in the night when there is little chance of protests. 'Since morning clashes continue. We fear it might aggravate further if the funeral is held in daytime,' he said on condition of anonymity.
