26 July 2016

Srinagar: The Indian Army captured a Pakistani militant alive on Tuesday during an anti-infiltration operation on the Line of Control (LoC) in the Naugam sector of Kupwara district in north Kashmir. Four other infiltrators were gunned down. 'One group possibly infiltrated 3-4 days back. Four of them were neutralised a little inside the hinterland,' Lieutenant General DS Hooda, general officer commanding-in-chief (GoC-in-C) of Northern Command, said. The operation started early on Tuesday morning. 'When troops were closing in, they came under heavy fire. They retaliated and four militants were killed. One was captured alive,' said an army officer. The apprehended militant has been identified as Bahadur Ali of Lahore. Reports suggest the infiltrators belonged to the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). However, the Indian Army neither confirmed nor denied it. An army spokesman told dna that all militants were foreigners. 'We have recovered three AK rifles, two pistols and other war- like stores from the militants,' he said. Lt Gen Hooda admitted that there have been more infiltration attempts this year than last in Jammu and Kashmir. 'Little more took place during the winter months when the fence was down. We are seeing regular attempts to infiltrateas there is little internal disturbance, there will be attempts to push in more and more infiltrators. We are well prepared,' he said. The infiltrator caught on the LoC is the fifth Pakistani to be apprehended alive since the Udhampur terror attack in August last year. This is also the third time in the last three months when Pakistan's terror machinery has been exposed. On June 21, Abu Ukasha alias Hanzullah of Bhawalpur in Pakistan was arrested by the police during a routine patrol in Sogam market in Lolaab area. The 19-year-old LeT terrorist was buying something when a police party got suspicious. On May 14, Jammu and Kashmir police caught a top Pakistani Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) suicide bomber alive from Baramulla. Earlier in February, the police arrested 17-year-old Pakistani JeM terrorist Mohommad Sidiq Gujjar alias Shahid of Sialkot in Pakistan, along with three local militants from Baramulla. LeT militant Mohammed Naveed alias Usman of Faisalabad, Pakistan, was captured alive when he, along with his associate Noman, attacked a BSF convoy near Narsoo Nallah in Udhampur on August 5, 2015. On August 27, 2015, Sajad Ahmad aka Javid Ahmad alias Abu Ubadullah, a 22-year-old LeT operative of Muzaffargarh in south-west Pakistan, was captured alive after all his four associates were gunned down during a fierce gunfight at two different locations in Bijhama to Panzala forests of Baramulla district.
