Srinagar: Army today shot dead three militants who targeted a border post of Border Security Forces (BSF) two days ago along the Line of Control (LoC) in Tanghdar sector. An Army spokesman said here that the troops today killed three militants and recovered three rifles and warlike stores from their possession in Tanghdar sector of Kupwara. 'Army foiled infiltration bid in Tanghdar sector, killing three terrorists. They were involved in the attack on the BSF post on August 19 in which three BSF men were injured. Three weapons and warlike stores were recovered and operation is going on', the spokesman said. Army's elite commandos of 4-Para had launched operation against the militant group for last three days and trapped three of them at village Nachin in Tanghdar near Sadna Top. Sources said that a group of six militants managed to infiltrate into Tanghdar sector in the frontier district of Kupwara on August 19. They targeted an ammunition and supplies depot of the Army at Nachin injuring 3 BSF men who have a post there. Three militants of the group were trapped by the Army this morning in Nachin and when challenged, they opened fire on the troops leading to a fierce gun battle. Army killed three of them and recovered three AK-47 rifles and other warlike stores. Army has launched another operation in Badi Behak, Tanghdar sector against the rest of the three militants of the group. They are conducting searches for last three days as three militants of the group are believed to be hiding there. Army has intensified operations along the LoC in North Kashmir after reports of increased attempts of infiltration by militants from Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) into Kashmir. Army says large numbers of militants are waiting on the launch pads for infiltration into Kashmir in PoK and attempts of infiltration have increased. They say that militant commanders in PoK are desperate to infiltrate more and more militants into Kashmir before the onset of winter as this year security forces achieved major successes against them by killing 103 militants in Kashmir valley which is the highest in recent years. Army says the infiltration of militants from PoK into Kashmir this year has increased. According to Multi Agency Centre (MAC) figures, this year 56 militants have infiltrated into Kashmir till July while last year only 36 had infiltrated. Security forces operation against militants in Kashmir has taken back seat during 44 days of unrest in which 65 protests were killed and thousands injured. However, security forces have now resumed anti-militancy operations after attack on an Army convoy in Baramulla last week in which three security men including two Army men were killed and attempt by militants to storm into Police Station Nowhatta in Srinagar was made on August 15. Yesterday security forces had to call off an operation in which they had trapped 3-4 militants in a village in Baramulla as they faced tough resistance from locals who threw stones at them and helped militants to escape.
