In 20 Years, Jammu Produces More Gazetted Officers Than Kashmir

Jammu: In past 20 years, Jammu region has produced 1339 gazetted officers as against 623 from Kashmir, the state government has revealed. Since 1997, JK government appointed 1962 gazetted officers through rigorous examinations and viva interviews of which 1339 posts were clinched by candidates from Jammu region, while 623 candidates from Kashmir region made it to gazetted cadre. This was informed by Chief Minister through a written reply to an un-starred question of National Conference MLC Dr Shehanz Ganai in Legislative Council recently. The government reply stated that against total 1608 appointments made for JK Combined Services (KAS-KPS) since 1999, 1099 aspirants of Jammu region were selected against 509 from Kashmir. Similarly, for 126 appointments made by the government through J&K Economics and Statistics (Gazetted) Service so far since 2007, 88 candidates were selected from Jammu against 38 from Kashmir. On appointment through J&K Judicial (Gazetted) Service since 1997, 152 candidates were selected from Jammu while only 76 posts were secured by aspirants from Kashmir. Batch-wise, 157 candidates for KAS have been selected from Jammu in 1999 against 101 from Kashmir, 152 have been selected from Jammu against only 52 from Kashmir in 2002, 104 have been selected from Jammu against 30 from Kashmir in 2004, 102 were selected from Jammu against 30 from Kashmir in 2008, 240 were selected from Jammu against 152 from Kashmir in 2011, 227 were selected from Jammu against 97 from Kashmir in 2012, 42 were selected from Jammu against 25 from Kashmir in 2013, 74 were selected from Jammu against 22 from Kashmir in 2015 only one person has been selected from Jammu while no one was selected from Kashmir. Similarly for J&K Economics and Statistics (Gazetted) Service, 20 got selected from Jammu against 123 from Kashmir in 2007 and 86 were selected from Jammu against 26 from Kashmir in 2011. Furthermore, for J&K Judicial (Gazetted) service, 21 were selected from Jammu against 9 from Kashmir in 1997, 30 were selected from Jammu against 4 from Kashmir in 2000, 10 were selected from Jammu against 7 from Kashmir in 2001, 31 were selected from Jammu against 15 from Kashmir in 2003, only one person was appointed in 2004 and he was from Jammu, 7 were selected from Jammu against 5 from Kashmir in 2011, 31 were selected from Jammu against 14 from Kashmir in 2013 and 4 were selected from Jammu against 3 from Kashmir in 2016. Another part of the reply informed that since 1997 only 360 women of Jammu and Kashmir have been selected through various J&K (Gazetted) Service and Jammu again remained at top. 'As per figures since 1997, Jammu has produced 216 women KAS officers against 66 from Kashmir, 25 women were selected for J&K Economics and Statistics (Gazetted) Service from Jammu against 4 from Kashmir and 31 were selected for J&K Judicial (Gazetted) Service from Jammu against 18 women officers from Kashmir,' the reply stated.
