2 Militants Killed In Pulwama Shootout

Srinagar: Two militants were killed in an encounter by forces in the south Kashmir district of Pulwama, official sources said on Sunday. They said government forces laid an ambush at village Padampora Awantipora in Pulwama district today following specific information about movement of militants. However, when the car reached near the naka, militants opened fire, they said adding the firing was retaliated and in the ensuing encounter two militants were killed. They said some arms and ammunition were recovered, they said adding the identity of the militants was being ascertained. The identity of the slain militants have been ascertained as Shahbaz Shafi Wani @Rayees Kachroo son of Mohammad Shafi resident of Beloo Rajpora Pulwama and Farooq Ahmad Hurrah son of Ghulam Ahmad Hurrah resident of Naizneenpora Shopian, he added. Both of them belonged to Hizb ul Mujahideen.Meanwhile protests erupted in Pulwama as the news of death of two local militants spread in the area. Hundreds of protestors took to streets at Awantipora to protest against militants' killing, but government forces deployed in the area fired teargas shells to disperse the the protesters ensuing clashes. The clashes were still going on when the reports last came in. Hizb pays tributes to slain militants Hizbul Mujahideen Sunday paid tributes to the two militants killed by police in Padgampora in Pulwama district. In a tele-statement to KNS, HM Operational Spokesman Buhran-u-Din said that the two militants belong to Hizbul Mujahideen and have sacrificed their lives for the freedom of Kashmir. The spokesman said that the Hizb Chief Syed Salahudin while presiding over a meeting paid glowing tributes to the militants. 'Till the Indian forces are occupying the Kashmir, people will fight against them,' the Hizb chief was quoted by the spokesman as having said in the meeting. He said that two militants who were killed by forces included Farooq Ahmad alias Saad of Nazimpora, Shopian, and Rayees Ahmad alias Abu Bakr of Belov, Pulwama. The spokesman said that Hizb's deputy chief Saifullah Khalid and Operational Commander (Field) Mahmood Ghaznavi also paid tributes to the two militants.
