New Delhi: The army's Kashmir Super 40 initiative for coaching Jammu and Kashmir youth for engineering entrance exams broke all previous records when 26 boys and two girls from the state cracked the IIT-JEE Mains exam 2017. Achieving a success rate of 78 per cent is the result of army's Kashmir Super 40 being at par with the best IIT coaching centers in the country. Conducted in Srinagar by army's training partner Centre for Social Responsibility & Learning (CSRL) and Petronet LNG, since 2013, this year's performance was the best, wherein 28 students, including nine from south Kashmir, ten from north Kashmir, seven from Kargil-Ladakh, and two from the Jammu region, successfully competed. This was the first batch in which 5 girls from Kashmir valley were coached in Delhi out of which two have qualified. Despite the numerous challenges, caused by internal disturbances in the Kashmir Valley post July 2016, the IIT-JEE coaching was undertaken as per the stipulated schedule by the army. Under this flagship scheme the candidates are selected by the army through an entrance test and interview conducted at various colleges throughout the state in the month of April - May. This year's outstanding result is the testimony of careful selection, excellent coaching, personalised guidance and conducive living and study environment provided at zero cost to the students at the Srinagar army location. The entire coaching and stay is free for the students and is sponsored under CSR initiative by Petronet LNG. With this stupendous performance, the army, in coordination with CSRL and Petronet LNG, has further upgraded the coaching programme to 50 students, including 5 girls, with immediate effect. This initiative by the army is a major successful step towards providing a platform for the underprivileged yet talented students of Jammu and Kashmir to excel in their careers. Apart from IIT's, the students of Kashmir Super-40 have equally excelled in various other engineering colleges exams throughout the country.
