Militants Attack CRPF Camp In Tral

Pulwama: Militants attacked a CRPF camp in Tral Bala area of south Kashmir's Pulwama district with grenades and gunfire on Tuesday evening. There were no reports of casualties till the filing of this report. Police said that 180 Bn. Camp of the paramilitary CRPF came under heavy attack from suspected militants, who hurled at least 3 grenades at the camp besides firing numerous bursts of gunfire. The grenades reportedly exploded outside the premises of the camp. Sources said the government forces fired at militants in retaliation and the exchange continued for 15 minutes. Police sources told Kashmir Reader that the grenades were fired using an Under Barrel Grenade Launcher (UBGL). CRPF spokesperson Ashish Kumar Jha confirmed the attack. 'We are trying to ascertain the details. For now there are no reports of injuries to anybody in the incident,' Jha said. The area has been cordoned off and operation has been launched soon after the attack to nab the attackers, sources said. Meanwhile, army soldiers on Tuesday evening fired several warning shots in Churath village of Qazigund following an altercation with the locals, which morphed into stone pelting. According to reports the altercation between locals and soldiers was triggered after an army vehicle hit a civilian. The locals were demanding compensation for the civilian driver which the army men refused to pay. Infuriated the locals threw pelted forces with stones, who in retaliation fired a several warning shots in air. The locals also alleged that the army men thrashed a few youth in the area. An army spokesperson from Srinagar, however, denied the allegations. 'Our men did not open fire,' the spokesperson said. Meanwhile several gunshots were heard in Khadwani area of Kulgam district at about 10:30 PM Tuesday night.
