NIA Sends Geelani's Sons Home To Report Back On Aug 1812 August 2017
Srinagar: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has released the sons of Hurriyat Conference chief Syed Ali Geelani whom it detained early last week; they are to report back to the agency for 'further investigation' on August 18. The duo returned home on Saturday, after days of interrogation. Naeem Zaffar Geelani and Syed Naseem Geelani were summoned by the NIA last month and went to Delhi last Monday for interrogation into alleged 'terror funding'. A doctor by profession, Naeem was supposed to report at the NIA's Delhi headquarters on July 31. However he was hospitalised before that after he complained of acute chest pain. He flew instead to Delhi on the 7th of this month, along with his younger brother, Naseem, who is an academic and teaches at the Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir. 'There was daily questioning of the two brothers since Tuesday morning,' sources in the know-how of the matter said. 'They have been asked to submit documents pertaining to their properties on August 18, when they will report back at the NIA headquarters in Delhi.' The NIA has arrested seven Hurriyat Conference leaders including Altaf Ahmed Shah alias Altaf Fantosh, Peer Saifullah, Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Raja Mehraj ud Din Kalwal, Aftab Hilali Shah alias Shahid ul Islam, Muhammad Akbar Khanday alias Ayaz Akbar and Farooq Ahmed Dar alias Bitta Karate after it registered a case against them alleging their role in 'terror funding'. The seven arrested leaders were produced twice before the special judge of the NIA at the Patiala House court complex in New Delhi. Sources confirmed that after landing at Srinagar airport in the afternoon, the two brothers drove straightaway to Geelani's residence-cum-office. 'The duo met their father (Geelani) and later left for their homes after spending some time there,' the sources said. Naeem lives in Sanat Nagar area while Naseem lives in Rawalpora area in uptown Srinagar. Neither is an active member of any resistance group.
