Srinagar: Naeem Akhtar urged people to introspect before levelling allegations of 'indiscriminate firing' on government forces. 'The priority should be to introspect,' Akhtar said to media persons soon after the attack in Tral. 'Why do we bring this destruction upon ourselves? What does it fetch us?' he asked. Akhtar said that much is said on a daily basis against government forces. 'But today I feel, if they were not here, it would be chaos,' he said. He said that government forces did their best to save lives of the people present at the site of attack. 'I don't think anyone has been killed by a bullet injury. Forces have shown maximum restraint,' he said. Condemning the attack, Akhtar questioned why it was carried out on the first day of Moharram (the first day of the Islamic new year). 'Why did they decide to unleash another Karbala today?' an emotional Akhtar asked. Whoever, Akhtar said, had carried out the attack was no well-wisher of Tral, Kashmir, or for that matter, Islam. He also presented before the media the injured Superintendent Engineer of the R&B department, Showket Ahmad, his head swathed in bandage, and told media persons that the SE had been doing good work in the area.
