Shopian: Thousands of people attended multiple funeral prayers of three HizbulMujahideen militants, who were killed in an encounter with forces at Gatipora, Kellar village of Shopian district on Monday evening. Amid pro-freedom and pro-Pakistan slogans, Irfan Abdullah Ganaie was laid to rest at his native graveyard in Heff village of Shopian district today. Hizb militants Zahid Ahmed Mir, Irfan Abdullah Ganai and Asif Ahmed Pal, all residents of Shopian, were killed in encounter with forces yesterday. Thousands of people attended the funeral prayers of Irfan. At least five back to back funeral prayers were held as people kept on pouring in the area. However, no militant visited Irfan's funeral to offer gun salute to him. Three months back, at least ten militants had appeared in the funeral of slain militant NasirWani and offered gun salute to him. The locals said many army camps have been established in the village in last two months, which has affected the free movement of militants. The villagers have carved out separate space in the graveyard for the slain militants. So far nine militants have been laid to rest in the graveyard. According to his family members, Irfan had joined militancy on May 11, 2016, while he was pursuing Master's in History through IGNOU. He belonged to a well-off family. 'His father had bought a new Wagon-R car for him. But that did not hold him back from joining the militancy. He used drove the car for few months and later joined the militancy,' said his friends. They said Irfan was a promising cricketer as well. 'He would regularly offer prayers,' his friends said. According to police, Irfan was involved in number of attacks. 'He was involved in weapon snatching and attack on a policeman. He was also involved in attack on 55RR and 14 Bn CRPF personnel,' a police spokesman said. SP Shopian, AmbarkarShriramDinkar told Rising Kashmir that five militants were active in Heff village. 'After killing of Irfan, three are still active,' he said. Among the three, two militants Saddam Paddar and Waseem Shah are A category militants. Padder is a top commander of Hizb and was close associate of slain Hizb commander BurhanWani while Shah heads Lashkar-e-Toiba in Shopian and Kulgam districts. Meanwhile, thousands of mourners converged from the adjacent areas to native village of HM militant Zahid at Ganawpora, Balpora to participate in his funeral prayers. He was a category A militant and a recruiter in Shopian district and had joined militancy in July 2015. Four back to back funeral prayers were held for Asif at his native village of Kathokalan, a far flung mountainous hamlet in Shopian district. The funeral prayers were offered under the foothills in his village. Thousands of people attended his funeral prayers amidst chanting of pro-freedom and anti-India slogans. Asif was active since last two and a half months. Women showered candies and flower petals over his body as he was kept in an open field for public display. Meanwhile, a shutdown was observed in Shopian to mourn the militant killings while authorities blocked the mobile internet in Shopian and Pulwama district since yesterday.
