Militants Hurled Grenade At PDP MLA Aijaz Ahmad Mir's Residence In Shopian

Srinagar: Militants attacked the residence of ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) legislator in Shopian district of South Kashmir in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday. However, the MLA was not present in the house and his family members escaped unhurt in the explosion. Superintendent of Police (SP) Shopian Ambarkar Shriram Dinkar told New Indian Express that militants lobbed a grenade towards the residence of PDP MLA Aijaz Ahmad Mir at Zainapora area in Shopian district in south Kashmir at around 5 pm. The grenade exploded inside the compound of the house with a big bang. No damage or injuries were caused by the grenade explosion, Dinkar said. Immediately after the grenade attack, police and paramilitary personnel rushed to the area to take stock of the situation. The security personnel also conducted combing operation in the area to nab the attackers. However, no arrests were reported. MLA Aijaz Ahmad Mir, who represents the Wachi constituency in Shopian in J&K Assembly, said he was not present in the house at the time of the explosion. 'I was in Srinagar. My family members were present in the house. However, they escaped unhurt in the blast,' he said. SP Shopian said police have registered a case and launched a manhunt to identify and track down the militants involved in the grenade attack. It was the 4th militancy related incident in volatile Shopian district in south Kashmir in last four days. Earlier, yesterday a throat-slit body of a teacher Aijaz Ahmad Lone was recovered from Shopian yesterday morning. On Tuesday, a mob set on fire the house of PDP worker Mohammad Ramzan Sheikh at Huomhuna, Imam Sahab area of Shopian. Sheikh, who was a former sarpanch, was shot dead by militants inside his house on Monday evening. A Hizbul Mujahideen militant was also killed in a scuffle with the family members of PDP worker.
