Shift Kashmiri Prisoners To Valley, Demand Separatists

Srinagar: Separatists today staged a protest against the recent incident involving manhandling and the brutal assault on Kashmiri prisoners at the Tihar jail in New Delhi. The protest was taken out from Jamia Masjid to the Nowhatta chowk in downtown Srinagar, where they staged a dharna. In a joint statement, the joint resistance leadership comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik demanded release and unconditional shifting of all Kashmiri prisoners lodged in various jails of the country back to Kashmir. The protesters said the recent assault on the prisoners in Tihar and the ill-treatment meted out to others lodged in Kathua where prisoners were facing inhumane treatment by jail authorities was eye opener for the champions of human rights, the statement said. End misuse of PSA: MLA: Srinagar: Engineer Rasheed, MLA from Langate, today welcomed the government's decision to withdraw cases against youths for their alleged involvement in stone pelting. He also sought release of political prisoners languishing in jails for decades and an end to the misuse of the Public Safety Act. He demanded release of Masrat Alam, Qasim Fuktoo, Aasia Indrabi and many others, including those lodged in the Tihar jail after the NIA raids.
