Srinagar: The South Kashmir Police which handles the workload of most counter terror operations in the state has added another feather in its cap, with inauguration of the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) project. The project was inaugurated on Thursday by DIG South Kashmir SP Pani. A mammoth task achieved by the region with currently 16 police stations of South Kashmir Range working on an online platform. The project is a huge challenge in Kashmir Valley as it witnesses what is known to be marathon power outages during the winters. Keeping reality in mind, the senior officials took into account not only to concentrate and focus training of police personnel to be computer literate, but also arranging for power backup by installing inverters working on solar panels. 'The job according is commendable not only because of the shear work load, but also that it has not been done by any other regions including North and Central Kashmir. Even Jammu region lags in the Centre backed CCTNS,' a senior officer told India Today. The project is tipped to be people friendly and is expected to benefit general public in lodging their complaints at any police station with ease. The project also boasts of bringing in transparency and accountability in the police department.
