21 February 2018

New Delhi: A helicopter of Pakistan army was reportedly spotted near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday. The Pakistani helicopter violated Indian air-space and came within 300 meters of the LoC and went back. The violation by one of three Mi-17 choppers occurred at 9:45 am at Gulpur sector in the general area of Poonch. 'It was observed that a Pakistan military helicopter came up to 300 metres of the LoC but then returned,' sources told news agency ANI. No firing or any other measure was taken by either side. According to norms laid down by both sides, rotary wing aircraft cannot come within a kilometre of the LoC, while fixed-wing aircraft cannot come within 10km of it, reported PTI. There have been several instances of ceasefire violation by Pakistani troops in Jammu and Kashmir in this year. On February 19, three civilians were injured in the heavy firing when the Pakistan army violated an unprovoked ceasefire in Jammu and Kashmir's Uri Sector. At least 860 incidents of ceasefire violations reportedly recorded on the LoC alone in 2017. In 2015 there had been 152 incidents, and in 2016 there were 228. January 2018 recorded the highest number of ceasefire violations in a month since 2003.
