Srinagar: The Hizbul Mujahideen has allegedly expelled its local commander Zeenat-ul-Islam in Shopian district. The outfit's announcement came through posters that were found pasted on Wednesday at various places in Shopian. The move comes a few days after 12 militants were killed in two encounters with security forces - at Draggad and Kachdoora villages of the district on April 1. As per the posters, Zeenat-ul-Islam, had been expelled by a disciplinary committee of the Hizbul Mujahideen. 'Being a commander, he (Zeenat) was expected to stand by the innocent 'mujahideen,' who were killed in the Draggad encounter,' posters read. It is being speculated in security circles and being discussed in the public domains that Zeenat was among 11 militants who were initially trapped at Draggad. Sources said Zeenat fled the encounter site along with three others while seven militants were trapped and subsequently killed in a gunfight with the security forces. 'He should have stayed and encouraged the young 'mujahideen' to foil the designs of the enemy,' read the posters in Urdu and printed on a letter head of the outfit. The posters also suggested that an inquiry committee had been set up to probe the incident. Shopian SP Sri Ram Dinkar said the veracity of the posters was being ascertained.
