New Delhi: Defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman today called the assessment made by the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in its recent report on Kashmir as 'baseless', as quoted by ANI. 'The report was prepared while sitting somewhere else. The assessment made by UNHRC has no basis. They are not aware of the ground realities in Kashmir,' said Sitharaman. 'The report(on Kashmir) is prepared sitting somewhere else. Assessment made by the UNHRC is without basis.' Throwing her weight behind the Indian Army, the union minister claimed that the forces show maximum restraint in Kashmir. 'The army is able to eliminate terrorists on the borders itself,' she said. Touching the subject of Kashmiri youth joining the ranks of terrorism, Sitharaman said, 'We are keeping an eye on recruitment. We are also focusing on what is motivating them to join terrorism and who is behind motivating them.' Earlier this week, India's Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Tanmaya Lal had called the report 'biased' and unfit to be considered by the members of the human rights body where it was submitted. 'The 'so-called' report about the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir reflects the 'clear bias of an official who was acting without any mandate whatsoever and relied on unverified sources of information,' said Lal.
