Anantnag: A security guard and two civilians were injured when militants opened fire as their attempt to loot a bank in Kulgam district was foiled around 3.40 pm on Friday. The police said people resisted the bank robbery attempt by the militants. 'Terrorists barged into a J&K Bank branch at Mohanpora with the intention to loot the bank. However, people resisted their attempt and forced them to flee. Infuriated, the terrorists opened fired, resulting in injuries to two civilians and a bank guard,' a police spokesman said, adding that no cash was looted. The injured were shifted to a nearby hospital. Following the shooting, security forces cordoned off the area to nab the militants. The police have started investigation into the matter. One of the injured civilians has been identified as Ashiq Hussain of Mohanpora village in Kulgam and the bank guard has been identified as Mohammad Ashraf Pinjwa of Shangus, Anantnag. Earlier in the day, unidentified men snatched a 12-bore rifle of a bank guard in the main town of Shopian. Meanwhile, amid a shutdown for the second consecutive day on Friday, curfew-like restrictions were imposed by the authorities in Anantnag town to prevent any law and order situation. The shutdown was being observed against the killing of two Lashkar-e-Toiba militants in the Lal Chowk area of the town on Wednesday. Srinagar: Security forces carried out intense sanitisation in Srinagar's Lal Chowk area, creating panic among locals. The searches were jointly carried out by the police and the CRPF in Lal Chowk. During the sanitisation, CRPF men also were deployed on buildings in the city centre to keep an eye on the passersby. The sanitisation in Lal Chowk was carried out two days after militants targeted CRPF men near the civil secretariat, killing a jawan. The checking of vehicles was also being done at various places in the city.
