Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front chairperson Muhammad Yasin Malik on Friday said that the people of Kashmir were striving for the right to self determination, and any attempts to tinker with the state subject laws would have grave ramifications. Malik said that under the garb of tinkering with Article 35A, the Bharatiya Janata Party and its allies want to settle non-locals in Jammu & Kashmir. 'This will be akin to what Israel has done in Palestine,' he said. He said that pro-India politicians in J&K should know that Kashmiris will spill their blood to safeguard the identity and uniqueness of their land. Asking people to be ready for a full-fledged 'people's agitation', Malik said that if the Supreme Court of India delivers a verdict against the aspirations of the people of Jammu & Kashmir, the people will hit the streets to defend the hereditary state subject laws. Malik was addressing protestors at Amira Kadal in the city centre where a protest demonstration was held on the call of the Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) to protest attempts to abrogate Article 35A of the Indian Constitution. The protesters held placards and raised slogans saying they will fight for the state subject laws at all costs. Hitting out at Omar Abdullah, who had said that defending Article 35A amounts to tacitly accepting the Indian Constitution, Malik said, 'We want to tell these hypocrites that the people of Jammu Kashmir for the past seventy years have been witnessing death, destruction and miseries, and it is these people (Omar) and their parties (NC) who are responsible for what Kashmiris are going through.'
