Srinagar: The BJP on Sunday kick-started its election campaign for the civic polls from north Kashmir. The senior BJP leader Ashok Kaul addressed closed door gatherings at Kupwara, Handwara and Bandipora. 'I told the workers to gear up for Urban and Local Bodies (ULB) elections and organize door to door campaign to garner party support,' Kaul told Greater Kashmir. 'It is clear that BJP has only two agendas in Kashmir: that is development and good governance.' He said that the ULB elections are the grassroots level of democracy in the country and people should realize the importance of these elections. 'I told them that they should motivate people to vote and that will help in development.' BJP general secretary said that during the meetings he observed enthusiasm among the voters. 'The people assured me that they will vote in large numbers,' he said. The senior BJP leader said that despite boycott of Peoples Democratic Party and National Conference, a large number of candidates were in fray. 'In Kupwara only, 43 candidates are contesting,' he said. 'Except Handwara, we have candidates in every ward'. Kaul said that they will be organizing gatherings at every district headquarter of Kashmir. 'Because of the situation the gatherings will be held closed door,' he said. In Kupwara while addressing party, Kaul said every worker must know his area intimately and must have personal rapport with every voter.'BJP believes in serving all equally, which is the only reason that it has formed the government in Muslim, dominated states,' he said. During his address in Handwara, senior BJP leader appealed people to be mentally ready for participating in upcoming ULB election and choose genuine representatives. 'Once you choose your own representative in the Panchayati elections, he will definitely not only help you to solve your local issues, but raise your issues with the government for their redressal'.
