Srinagar: Two Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) militants were slain during a nocturnal gunfight with government forces Friday night in Pulwama village of southern Kashmir. The gunfight ensued after hours long cordon and search operation late last night in Dragam village of the south Kashmir district. Reports said that Army's Rashtriya Rifles, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the special operations group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police surrounded the village late Thursday after receiving information about the presence of militants in the area. Floodlights were also put up around the cordoned off area to prevent the militants from escaping under the cover of darkness. As the government forces closed on the house where militants were suspecting to be hiding in, the hiding militants fired upon them triggering a gunfight. A police official said that two militants were killed in the ensuing gunfight, adding that their identity was being ascertained. Meanwhile intense clashes have erupted around the gunfight site after local youth took to streets and pelted government forces with stones. The forces hurled tearsmoke shells to disperse them. Authorities have routinely suspended the mobile Internet services in the twin districts of Pulwama and Shopian as soon as the gunfight broke out.
