L-G Nod To Raj Bhawan, Secretariat In Ladakh UT

Jammu: Conceding the major demand of the agitating groups, the Lieutenant-Governor (L-G) of the Union Territory of Ladakh, Radha Krishna Mathur, today formally announced that Raj Bhawan, UT Secretariat, Police establishment and residences would also be located in Kargil district for 'efficient and better administration'. With this announcement, Ladakh will now have rotational office of the L-G, IGP and the UT Secretariat between the twin districts of Leh and Kargil that constitute the newly formed UT. Mathur, who concluded his first two-day visit to Kargil district after taking oath on October 31, also said that there would be no discrimination against Kargil district vis-à-vis development and governance issues. 'For efficient administration, Raj Bhawan, UT Secretariat, Police establishment and residences etc shall be located in Kargil also. Various administrative issues for efficient functioning shall also be addressed,' the L-G said after holding a series of meetings with Council members of the LAHDC Kargil, representatives of the Joint Action Committee (JAC), political, religious leaders, social groups and various associations. On the second and concluding day, the L-G also held a meeting with the district officials and different groups of government employees, teachers and lecturers. Mathur also announced an exposure visit for the Executive Council members of both LAHDCs in future. He also assured members of the LAHDC Kargil that funds for the completion of the Council Secretariat infrastructure would also be released in the due course of time. 'The government wants Kargil to prosper along with the rest of the nation and become a partner in the country's economic progress. The recent decisions of the government were meant to speed up their progress. The fund flow for development shall increase,' the L-G said. Mathur also said that the operation of commercial aircraft, AN 32 Courier Service, MI-17 and other helicopter services, opening up of Zojila till late winter etc will be accorded priority. Meanwhile, Nasir Hussain Munshi, JAC general secretary, while expressing happiness over the announcement said Kargil would now work in close coordination with Leh district to ensure that all other major issues were taken up for consideration.
