SPOs Recruitment: Over 77,000 Youth Apply For 5200 Posts

Srinagar: The recruitment of Special Police Officers (SPOs) in Jammu and Kashmir Police has received huge response with over 77,000 youth applying for 5199 vacancies. 'The recruitment offer for SPOs has evoked tremendous response by the aspiring youth across JK,' a police spokesman said today. He said police said 77,641 youth applied for 5199 posts across various districts in J&K. The physical tests for these posts have been conducted and the final process of recruitment is underway, it said. In Jammu region, police has received highest 51,047 applications from youth while in Kashmir it has received 26,594 applications for the recruitment of SPOs. The recruitment was started by Police across Jammu and Kashmir including militancy hotbed south Kashmir post-abrogation of Article 370 and bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir into two union territories. In Anantnag district, 2859 applications were received against 409 posts and 989 youth applied for the 259 vacant posts of SPOs in Kulgam district. Similarly, 1469 youth applied for 575 posts in Pulwama, Shopian and Awantipora districts. The police spokesman said 6013 applications were received by Police against 813 posts of SPOs in central Kashmir which is spread over three districts -Srinagar, Budgam and Ganderbal. In north Kashmir, 5118 youth applied for 187 posts in Kupwara district alone while 10,146 application were received for 686 posts in Baramulla, Sopore, Handwara and Bandipora. In Jammu district, Police received 9752 applications for 224 posts and 4406 youth applied for 84 vacancies in Samba district. Similarly, 11,909 applications were received against 298 vacant posts in Doda-Kishtwar-Ramban range and 9573 application were received for 143 posts in Udhampur-Reasi range. Moreover, 15,407 applications were received for SPOs recruitment against 324 posts in Rajouri-Poonch range. 'The recruitment process has been completed in most of the districts. The Police Headquarter has issued directions for early completion of the remaining recruitment process,' said an official. At present, around 25000 SPOs are serving in Police and they have been working under different capacities-maintaining law and order, security, and intelligence. The SPOs have been actively involved in anti-militancy operation in Kahsmir alongside regular Police and other forces. Since their induction into the force, several of them have been killed in gunfights with militants and some have been killed in militant attacks in the valley.
