Srinagar: Artists earning their livelihood from 'Youtube' channels Thursday staged a silent protest over suspension of internet in Kashmir Valley. There are various groups of artists from Kashmir Valley that earn their living by uploading the funny stuff on their 'youtube' channels. These channels have been subscribed by thousands of netizens. Among these popular 'youtube' channels, there are 'Kalakarab', 'Kashmiri Rounders', 'Ultimate Rounders', 'Kashmiri Back Benchers', 'Kashur Kalakar' and others. A number of artists associated with several such youtube channels emerged in Press Enclave Srinagar and staged a silent protest. They said they haven't earned a penny since August 5, when Government snapped internet service after the annulment of special status of Jammu and Kashmir. The internet- both mobile and broad-band was suspended on August 5 when the government of India revoked Article 35 A and 370 of the Indian Constitution that guaranteed special status to the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir. The suspension has affected almost every class of the society and among these are the artists from Kashmir. 'We have 4.75 lakh subscribers and we used to earn over Rs 50,000 per month after uploading our funny stuff. Since August, we haven't earned anything,' said Parvez Ahmed who runs 'Kalakharab' youtube channel. Mahi Amir another channel holder said that after finshing his MBA, when he didn't find any job, he decided to launch his own youtube channel. 'We are artists and were earning a handsome amount through hardwork, but the ban on internet ruined us. We are at a loose end right now and appeal government to restore this service,' he said.
