Srinagar: Four CRPF troopers were killed and another jawan injured after militants fired at their vehicle at Sopore in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday evening. According to reports, the militants ambushed a joint party of CRPF and police at Ahad Bab crossing in Noorbagh area. While two jawans succumbed to their injuries on the way to the hospital, the other two died later. Earlier, a high-ranking CRPF officer had told THE WEEK that three jawans were killed and two others, including the driver of the vehicle, were injured in the attack. However, with one more personnel succumbing to his injuries, the death toll reached four. After the incident, additional CRPF and police personnel have been rushed to the area to search for the militants. This is the second time that security forces have suffered fatalities since April 5 when five army men including four special forces personnel (Paras) were killed in an intense battle at Dongari Behak in Keran at over 10,000 feet in thick snow. The operation which lasted five days was carried out by the special forces after a group of militants was trapped into a gorge by the Army through effective maneuvering. The Sopore attacks came a day after security forces killed four militants, two each in south Kashmir and Kishtwar in Jammu, on Friday.
