Terrorists Attack Councillors' Meet In Sopore, 2 Killed

Srinagar: Block Development Council (BDC) Chairperson Fareeda Khan was on Monday attacked by terrorists in Sopore area of Jammu and Kashmir. Fareeda Khan has been rushed to a hospital in the area. Police have cordoned off the area to track down the assailants. According to the inputs, forces have been deployed in the area following an attack on the BDC chairperson. A councilor has sustained serious injuries in the attack. The incident happened during a meeting of the councilors. While BJP leader Fareeda Khan escaped unhurt, two persons - one councilor and one PSO - have died in the terrorist attack. In a statement, J&K Police said, 'Terrorists fired at Municipal Office Sopore. In this terror incident, police personnel Shafqat Ahmad and councillor Riyaz Ahmad got martyred and councillor Shams-ud-din Peer got injured. Injured shifted to hospital for treatment. Area cordoned off...' Inspector General of Police- Kashmir Zone Vijay Kumar visited the site of the incident and held a meeting with the army's sector commander, deputy inspector general of CRPF and superintendent of police in Sopore. Instructions have been given to suspend four personal security officers of protected persons who were present during the attack but did not retaliate suitably. According to Vijay Kumar, two militants from the Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist group are involved. Meanwhile, The Resistance Force (TRF), a new terrorist group believed to be a frontal organisation for Lashkar, has claimed responsibility for the attack.
