Bringing back 200 youth, who were on cusp of becoming militants, my achievement in past 1 year: Outgoing GoC 15 Corps

Srinagar 05 May: Outgoing General officer Commanding of Srinagar based 15 Corps, D P Pandey on Thursday said that bringing 200 youth, who were on the cusp of becoming militants, back to society was his achievement in the Kashmir Valley. Talking to reporters on side-lines of a send-off tea ceremony at B B Cant, Pandey said that his achievement in the past one year was that more than 200 youth, who were possibly on the cusp of becoming militants and majority of who had become militants, were brought back to society. Talking about the achievements of Company Commanders, soldiers and other officials of 15 Corps, Pandey said that everybody achieved in terms of operations, actions to ensure that no woman, daughter or mother has to cry for a loss which is happening because somebody has become a militant.

Delimitation Commission submits final order to redraw electoral map of J&K

Srinagar 05 May: Jammu and Kashmir Delimitation Commission that was mandated to redraw boundaries of assembly and Lok Sabha constituencies in the Union Territory has submitted its final order today, reports said here. Reports reaching Kashmir News Service (KNS) said that the commission submitted its final draft report today after duly signing it following a meeting at Election Commission office at New Delhi. Notably, the commission completed its exercise after two years.

Delimitation exercise bound to alter electoral demography in J&K: CPI(M)

Srinagar 05 May: CPI(M) on Thursday said that the Delimitation Commission has submitted its final report despite constitutional freeze on the increase or decrease of Parliamentary or Assembly seats. In a statement, issued to Kashmir News Service (KNS), a spokesperson said that though the Delimitation Commission was constituted under the Delimitation Act of 2002 but it has re-drawn the constituencies in accordance with the previsions of J&K Re-organisation Act 2019 which has been challenged in the Supreme Court. The statement reads that the Re-organisation Act modified the law of enfranchisement of J&K.

Cross-border tunnel detected in Jammu: BSF

Jammu 05 May: The BSF on Thursday said it has detected a cross-border tunnel along the International Border in Jammu and Kashmirs Samba district and claimed to have foiled the plans of Pakistan-based militants to disrupt the upcoming Amarnath Yatra. An alert has been sounded in the Jammu region. The 150-metres-long tunnel was detected in an area under the Chak Faquira border outpost in Samba on Wednesday evening, BSF officials said.

New Delhi 05 May: Redrawing the electoral map of Jammu and Kashmir, a three-member Delimitation Commission on Thursday earmarked 47 assembly seats for Kashmir division and 43 for Jammu in its final order submitted just a day before its two-year tenure was to end. A gazette notification was issued after the panel, headed by retired Supreme Court judge Ranjana Prakash Desai, signed the final order giving Jammu six additional seats and one more to Kashmir. Before the restructuring, which takes the total number of assembly seats in the union territory to 90, Jammu had 37 assembly constituencies and Kashmir 46.

NC, Congress and PDP were only beneficiaries of Article 370: BJP

However, the Peoples Conference led by Sajad Gani Lone, which is seen as an ally of the BJP, accused the National Conference of providing sanctity to the delimitation exercise after its MPs participated in the deliberations of the commission. Within 24 Months, Jammu Kashmir Will Have 50 Cinema Halls

Srinagar 05 May: An entertainment company has tied up with a Jammu partner to set up 50 cinema halls in Jammu and Kashmir. The work on the first four has started, reports in the media said. The first four cinema halls will be set up in Jammu, Katra, Nagrota and Kathua. They will have 80 seats each.
