Two militants killed in Anantnag gunfight: IGP Kashmir

Srinagar 28 May: Two unidentified militants were killed in an encounter in Shattipora area of Bijbhera in South Kashmir`s Anantnag district on Saturday. While quoting IGP, Kashmir police informed that two militants have been killed in a brief exchange of fire. However identity of the slain militants is yet to be ascertained.

Srinagar 28 May: The erstwhile state of Jammu & Kashmir has hit a grueling demographic milestone in the past three years as the latest round of National Family Health Survey for 2019-21 has revealed that J&K has the fifth lowest Total Fertility rate(TFR) in the country besides the women's TFR slipping below the replacement-level by 0.6 percent.

Two Hizb militants killed in Bijbehara gunfight: Police

Anantnag 28 May: Two local militants of Hizbul Mujahideen were killed on Saturday afternoon in a brief gunfight with the government forces in Bijbehara area of south Kashmirs Anantnag district, the police said. The slain militants have been identified as Ishfaq Ahmad Ganaie, a resident of Chak-Wangund in the Anantnag district, and Yawar Ayub Dar, a resident of Dogripora village in police district Awantipora of Pulwama. The two of them were involved in several militancy-related crimes, Kashmir Inspector General of Police (IGP), Vijay Kumar, said as he confirmed the killing of the militants.

Woman among 3 arrested, narcotics, 2 IEDs recovered in Kupwara: Police

Kupwara 28 May: Police on Saturday said to have arrested three persons, which included a woman, on recovery of narcotics and ammunition at Sadhna Top in north Kashmirs Kupwara district. In a major success against narco-[militancy], a joint team of Kupwara Police and Army 7 RR has recovered huge quantity of narcotics and IED from a vehicle during a routine check up at Sadhna Top, said a police spokesperson in a statement. .

LG reaches to family of cop killed in Baramulla encounter

Srinagar 28 May: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday visited the residence of Mudasir Sheikh, a policeman who was killed in an encounter with terrorists earlier this week, in Baramulla district, officials said. Sinha was accompanied by senior police and civil administration officials. The LG visited Sheikhs family in the north Kashmir districts Uri.

NC demands exemplary punishment to BJP leader for blasphemous remarks

Srinagar 28 May: National Conference on Saturday expressed dismay over the blasphemous, offensive, and frighteningly hurtful statement of BJP Spokesperson Nupur Sharma against Prophet (SAW) during a debate on a national news channel. In a statement, YNC Provincial President (Kashmir) Salman Ali Sagar strongly castigated BJP spokespersons views terming them unfounded, unsubstantiated, and uncalled for in entirety. He said that the BJP and the union government must offer an unqualified apology for such sacrilegious comments in which the most sacred name for Muslims was used in a bid to stoke communal passions.

Villagers ransack liquor outlet, destroy its entire stock in Jammu: Police

Jammu 28 May: A mob of villagers angry over the opening of a liquor shop close to a temple, a mosque and a school in their area on outskirts of the city ransacked the outlet and destroyed its entire stock on Saturday, police said. The villagers also roughed up the owner of the liquor shop in the Khari panchayat in Bishnah area, who had to be rescued by police, they said. We have been demanding the closure of the shop since its opening some time back but the government failed to take action on our repeated requests, local sarpanch R K Sharma said.
