Cloudburst Hits Amarnath Cave Area; 15 Dead, Scores Missing

Srinagar , July 08 : At least fifteen people were killed and over forty went missing after a cloudburst hit the mountain cave shrine of Amarnath near Baltal in central Kashmir triggering flash floods sweeping away pitched tents and community kitchens erected for the yatris during the 43-day pilgrimage. The cloudburst struck around 5.30 pm Friday amid heavy rainfall, reports said. The gushing waters hit the base camp outside the shrine, damaging 25 tents and three community kitchens where the pilgrims are served food, officials said.

Militant, Soldier Killed In Firefight On Kashmir Control Line

Srinagar , July 08 : The Army on Friday foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in Tangdhar sector of North Kashmirs Kupwara district by killing a militant. A local news agency KNO quoting official sources reported that soldiers noticed some suspicious movement along the LoC and challenged the intruders. They said that militants attempted to infiltrate in Tangdhar and subsequently were challenged by the alert troops deployed along the LoC.

Friday prayers once again barred at Srinagars Jama Masjid

Srinagar , July 08 : The Anjuman Auqaf Jamia Masjid Srinagar said on Friday that while millions of Muslims from all over the world are assembling at Arafat in Makkah as part of Hajj, it is deeply regrettable and reprehensible that on such a great occasion, the Muslims of Kashmir were once again not allowed by the authorities to offer Friday prayers at the historic central Jama Masjid in Srinagar. The Anjuman in a statement said that on Friday morning, the magistrate and senior police officials came to the mosque and informed the Auqaf that Friday prayers would not be allowed at the Jamia Masjid. The Anjuman condemned the practice of repeatedly barring Muslims from performing important religious duties such as Friday prayers at the largest place of worship in Kashmir.

LG cancels SI recruitment, recommends CBI probe

Srinagar , July 08 : The Jammu and Kashmir administration on Friday recommended a CBI probe into the police sub-inspector recruitment scam after Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha cancelled the list of successful candidates issued last month. Sinha, while cancelling the recruitment process, said the culprits will be brought to justice soon. JKP Sub-Inspector recruitment has been cancelled & a CBI probe has been recommended into selection process.

NC set to fight multi-front battle: Abdullah

Jammu , July 08 : Batting strongly for collectivism and better coordination at all levels in the party, National Conference president and former chief minister Farooq Abdullah on Friday said the party is set to fight a multi-front battle in Jammu and Kashmir. The Srinagar MP also exhorted party functionaries to amplify their efforts to reach out to wider sections of society across J&K. As far as the NC is concerned, it is set to fight a multi-front battle (in Jammu and Kashmir), Abdullah said while interacting with a number of delegations at his residence here.

Altaf Bukhari to contest upcoming J&K polls from Uri and Chanpora

Nadeem Khawaja Uri Srinagar , July 08 : Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party president, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari on Friday said that he will contest the upcoming assembly elections from Uri and Chanpora constituencies. Talking to Kashmir News Service (KNS), Bukhari confirmed that he will be contesting assembly polls from Uri and Chanpora constituencies in Baramulla and Srinagar districts respectively. He said that people from Uri had come to visit him to contest elections from Uri constituency as well.

BJP will form govt in J-K with 'full majority': Raina

Jammu , July 08 : Exhorting party leaders to walk the extra mile to reach out to the people, Jammu and Kashmir BJP president Ravinder Raina on Friday said the party is all set to form the government in the union territory with "full majority". Raina said the party will ensure that the nation is strengthened, both internally and externally, and is ready to lead the world. "With dedicated efforts of the BJP leaders, the party is all set to form government with full majority in Jammu and Kashmir on its own," Raina told the party members at a workshop.

84 Start-Ups Established In J&K In Last Few Years: Govt

Srinagar , July 08 : Jammu and Kashmir has emerged as top performer among all the UTs and the North-Eastern States in the ranking of States’ Exercise-2021 on Support to Start-Up Ecosystems. This was revealed in the results of the third edition of ‘Ranking of States on Support to Startup Ecosystems’ released by Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution and Textiles, Piyush Goel at the National Capital. According to the report, states and Union Territories were classified into five categories, like- Best performers, Top performers, Leaders, Aspiring leaders and Emerging Start-Up Ecosystems.

Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif praises terrorist Burhan Wani, says his 'heroic struggle' continues to 'inspire' Kashmiri youth

Islamabad , July 08 : Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif, on Friday, glorified slain terrorist Burhan Wani and slammed India over Jammu and Kashmir. In a tweet, Sharif said that Wani's 'heroic struggle' continues to 'inspire the Kashmiri youth & blaze their path'. Pakistans Ministry of Foreign Affairs also posted a message on Burhan Wani's death anniversary: "Indian occupation forces martyred Burhan Wani this day in 2016 but could never extinguish the flame of freedom he ignited in the hearts & minds of the people of IIOJK. His heroic struggle against ruthless & illegal occupation continues to inspire the Kashmiri youth & blaze their path," Sharif said in a tweet.
