CRPF officer killed in militant attack in Pulwama

Anantnag , July 17 : An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of paramilitary CRPF was shot at and killed in a militant attack here in Pulwama district of south Kashmir on Sunday, the police said. The slain ASI has been identified as Vinod Kumar. Rest of the details about the slain will be conveyed after his next of kin are intimated about his killing, a senior police officer from Pulwama said.

Eastern Ladakh 16th round of military talks between India & China

New Delhi , July 17 : The 16th round of high-level military talks between India and China got underway on Sunday with a focus on resolving outstanding issues in the remaining friction points along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh. The talks began at around 9:30 am at the Chushul Moldo meeting point on the Indian side of the LAC in the region, official sources said. The last round of dialogue between the Indian Army and the Chinese Peoples Liberation Army (PLA) took place on March 11 and it lasted for around 13 hours.

Preparations on for assembly elections in J&K

Srinagar , July 17 : The election machinery is gearing up for the conduct of assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir as the first-level checking (FLC) of EVMs and VVPATs will be held at a workshop here later this month, officials said on Sunday. They said deputy commissioners of all ten districts of the Valley and a team of the Election Commission of India (ECI) will participate in the workshop. The preparations for the assembly elections are underway.

Srinagar , July 17 : Former Deputy Mayor Sheikh Mohammad Imran on Sunday wrote that corruption has reached its peak on his official Twitter handle In his tweet, Imran hinted towards a huge amount of bribe taken by a certain influential person without naming him. "Corrupt people have taken bribe in their own bank accounts. I have sent proofs to Mr. Anand Jain Director, J&K Anti-Corruption Bureau and I am hopeful atleast he and his department will act swiftly against corrupt," the tweet read.

No option other than dialogue with Pakistan to resolve Kashmir issue, says Mehbooba

Srinagar , July 17 : PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday said there was no option other than holding dialogue with Pakistan and other stakeholders to resolve the Kashmir issue and stop the bloodshed. Condemning the killing of a CRPF officer by militants in Pulwama, she said it has been her party’s consistent demand that bullets or grenades cannot solve an issue but only talks can. “There is a need to start dialogue both ways. If we say that militancy is Pakistan-sponsored, then, for that also, talks have to be held with Pakistan like (former PM A B) Vajpayee had and militancy had decreased and infiltration was down.
