1.05 Crore Tourists Visited Kashmir In First 6 Months This Year: GoI

Srinagar , July 18 : More than ten million tourists have visited Jammu and Kashmir this year so far, making it one of the most successful tourism years ever in the scenic valley which has witnessed a relatively plunging tourist footfall in the last three years. The figures were placed by Union Minister for Tourism G K Reddy on Monday. As per Reddy, 1.05 crore, which is over 10 million, tourists have visited Jammu and Kashmir in the first six months of the calendar year 2022.

SF in Kashmir Will Not Commit Mistake that Fuels Street Protests: Sinha

Ganderbal , July 18 : Jammu and Kashmirs Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha Monday said that the neighbouring country is trying hard to foment trouble in J&K by hatching conspiracies to provoke security forces to commit a mistake that can fuel street protests but our forces will never commit any such act. Addressing two-day multi-stakeholder convention on holistic development of agriculture & allied sectors in J&K, at Ganderbal district of Central Kashmir, the LG said that for ensuring development, peace is must. In a place, where there is violence, there can be no development.

Army captain, JCO killed in accidental blast along LoC in Poonch

Jammu , July 18 : An army captain and a junior commissioned officer (JCO) were killed in an accidental grenade blast along the Line of Control in Jammu Poonch district, officials said on Monday. The blast occurred when the Indian army troops were performing their duties in Mendhar sector late Sunday night, PRO Defence Jammu Lt Col Devender Anand said. It resulted in injuries to Captain Anand and JCO Naib Subedar Bhagwan Singh.

IED material recovered in Srinagar, one arrested: Police

Srinagar , July 18 : Police on Monday claimed to have recovered six Kg of Improvised Explosive Device material on National Highway from a person in Central Kashmirs Srinagar district. In a handout, the police spokesperson said that police in Srinagar on technical inputs arrested one person namely Zahid Ahmad Mir son of Ab Aaziz Mir resident of Aripanath Beerwah Budgam. During examination he disclosed having hidden IED material, he led the police team and caused recovery of P3 type explosive material (weighing approximately 06 kg), one Electric detonator and around 500 gms of ball bearings & nails.

Militant hideout busted in Ramban

Banihal, Jammu , July 18 : Security forces on Monday busted a suspected terror hideout in Jammus Ramban district and seized ammunition and explosives, officials said. A joint search operation by the Rashtriya Rifles and the police was launched in the heights of the Buzla-Khari belt in Banihal which led to the uncovering of the hideout in Hadwagan-Sernihal forest, they said. The forces seized a fragmentation grenade, 35 rounds of AK rifle, seven Pike rounds, two magazines, seven pistol rounds, two tiffin boxes, a kerosene stove, a radio set, one UBGL, utensils, 1 kg of an explosive-like material in polythene, 2 kg of explosive materials in steel container, a cassette player, IED equipment with wire and a pouch, the officials said.

Army Captain, JCO killed in Accidental grenade blast in Poonch

P oonch , July 18 : An Indian Army Captain and a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) were killed while four other injured in an accidental grenade blast along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammu region, officials said on Monday. An official told Kashmir news service (KNS), that the incident took place late last night when troops were performing their duties along the LoC in the Mendhar sector. He said that the blast resulted in injuries to six soldiers who were immediately evacuated by helicopter to army`s command Udhampur hospital for treatment.

Apni Party will not allow division of J&K: Bukhari

Jammu , July 18 : Apni Party president Altaf Bukhari today pitched for social, economic, educational and political empowerment of women in Jammu and Kashmir. Welcoming them into the Party, Bukhari said that Apni Party is committed for the empowerment of the women folk in J&K without any discrimination. He recalled the foundation of Apni Party on Women's Day while referring to the importance given to the women in J&K with a motive to improve their livelihood and uplift them socially, economically, educationally and politically.

India-China fail to make headway

New Delhi , July 18 : India and China failed to make any breakthrough in resolving outstanding issues on the remaining friction points in eastern Ladakh at the 16th round of military talks on Sunday, but agreed to maintain dialogue to arrive at a mutually acceptable resolution at the earliest. A day after the nearly 12-and-half-hour talks, the two sides, in a joint statement on Monday, reaffirmed that the resolution of the pending issues would help in the restoration of peace and tranquility along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the region and enable progress in bilateral relations. At the talks, India strongly pressed for early disengagement of troops from all the remaining friction points in the region and demanded the restoration of the status quo ante as of April 2020 ' before the start of the military standoff, official sources said.

Court refrains social media from posting against PDP leader

Srinagar , July 18 : A local court today directed the social media not to publish or post any kind of article or debate on its sites made by the Apni Party leader against the senior PDP leader and former minister Farooq Ahmad Andrabi. The 2nd Additional Munsiff Srinagar presided by Shahber Ayaz passed the direction in a plea filed by the PDP leader-Andrabi against the Apni Party activist Bashir Ahmad Bragami and heads of various social media sites submitting that on July 3 the Apni Party leader while appearing in an interview on 'JK Live News' had made baseless and incorrect statement to malign the political image and status of him.
