4 Soldiers Killed In Rajouri Fidayeen Attack

Jammu , August 11 :Militants attacked an Army camp in Rajouri district on Thursday killing four soldiers and the two attackers were gunned down in the shootout after the pre-dawn suicide strike that marked the return of 'fidayeen' to Jammu and Kashmir after more than three years. Both the militants, who are believed to be from the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), were heavily armed with deadly 'steel core' bullets and were shot down after an over four-hour gun battle which started at 2 AM and ended just before 6.30 AM, police said. The attack came four days ahead of India's 75th Independence Day next Monday.

Srinagar , August 11 : Army on Thursday said that slain terrorists killed in Budgam operation were planning a major attack in the run-up to Independence Day.Addressing a press conference at 5 sector RR headquarters in central Kashmir Budgam area, Brigadier VJS Birdi Commander 5 Sector RR said slain terrorists killed in Watrahel Budgam were planning for major attack ahead of Independence Day in Kashmir.“A major operation was carried out on Aug 10 in which a module of LeT was neutralized. This module was led by Lateef Rather, who was a member of LeT for past two decades and was involved in major activities including the killing of police and security forces,” he said.

Pol leaders condemn Rajouri attack, express sympathy to families of slain soldiers

Srinagar , August 11 : Political leader Thursday strongly condemned the attack on an army camp in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir.National Conference leader Omar Abdullah condoled the death of three soldiers in the terrorist attack."Very sorry to hear about the death in the line of duty of three soldiers following a militant attack in Rajouri. While condemning the attack I send my condolences to the families & my prayers for the swift recovery of those officers &jawans injured in the attack #Rajouri," the former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister tweeted.BharatiyaJanata Party (BJP) general secretary Tarun Chug said, "I strongly condemn terror attack on army camp in Rajouri village. CAG Tells J&K Admin To Augment Its Own Tax Revenue

Srinagar , August 11: The Comptroller and Auditor General of India has recommended that the Government of Jammu & Kashmir Union Territory should make efforts for augmentation of its own tax revenue. In its audit report on the Union Territory Finances for the year ended 31 March 2021, the CAG has stated that the J&K UTs own tax revenue fell short by 32 percent of budget estimates of 2020-21. The collection under own tax revenue fell short by 32.96 per cent of Budget Estimates.

J&K LG Hails Jana Sangh Founders Contribution For Kashmir Integration

Srinagar , August 11 : Hailing the indispensable contributions of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee, the Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha said on Thursday that Prime Minister, Narendra Modi paid the biggest tribute to the Jana Sangh founders vision, his struggle and sacrifice by effecting total integration of Jammu Kashmir with the rest of country in August 2019. Sinha made these remarks while addressing the 'Tiranga Utsav' programme organized by the District Administration in Kathua on Thursday, an official spokesperson said. Lights, Camera; Action: Kashmirs First Multiplex Coming Up In Srinagar

Srinagar , August 11 : Over thirty years after militants shut down all the cinema halls across Kashmir, a prominent Kashmiri Pandit businessman is all set to unveil the Valleys first-ever multiplex in the high-security zone of this capital city this autumn. Vijay Dhar, the brainchild behind the project, had started construction work on the multiplex at Shivpora near Badami Bagh Cantonment, around two years ago. The multiplex designed by INOX, is slated to be ready by September.

AAC for immediate release of Mirwaiz, other political prisoners

Srinagar , August 11 : Jammu and Kashmir Awami Action Committee (AAC) expressed deep regret and worry over the continued arbitrary and extra judicial detention of its Chairman Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Mirwaiz Umar Farooq since August 2019. In a statement it said that his incarceration for more than three years is a cause of anxiety among the people of J&K, especially his lakhs of followers. AAC said that by detaining Mirwaiz, it seems the authorities want to weaken the institution of Mirwaiz , which is indigenous to the culture and heritage of J&K and a distinctive symbol of its Islamic ethos and identity.

China blocks US-India bid at UN to blacklist JeM Dy chief Abdul Rauf Azhar

United Nations, New Delhi , August 11 : China has blocked a proposal by the US and India at the UN Security Council to designate Pakistan-based JeMs deputy chief Abdul Rauf Azhar as a global terrorist, an action dubbed as politically motivated by the government sources in New Delhi. Brother of JeM chief Masood Azhar, Abdul Rauf, born in 1974 in Pakistan, has been involved in planning and executing numerous attacks in India including the hijacking of Indian Airlines aircraft IC814 in 1999, the attack on the Parliament in 2001 and the targeting of the IAF base in Pathankot in 2016. China on Wednesday put a technical hold on the joint proposal at the United Nations Security Council to designate Azhar as a global terrorist and subject him to assets freeze, travel ban and arms embargo, sources said and added that all other 14 member states of the top UN body supported the move.

Why no elections in J&K, Tarigami demands explanation from GoI

Srinagar , August 11 : Communist leader Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami on Thursday asked the Centre to take the people of the country into confidence and explain why assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir are not being held as promised. He said while the polls are not a panacea for all the ills of Jammu and Kashmir under the present set up of a Union territory, an elected government would provide some respite to the people. The present government at the Centre has gone hoarse claiming that normalcy has returned to Jammu and Kashmir and that all wrongs have been set right.

People should not be deprived of the right to have an elected government: Altaf Bukhari

Apni , August 11 : Emphasizing on immediate assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir, Apni Party President Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari on Thursday said that the enthusiastic public response to the party's ongoing outreach campaign indicates that people want restoration of statehood and immediate elections here. He was addressing an enormous public rally, thronged by men and women of all age groups, at Khaipora village of north Kashmir's Tangmarg today. According to a press statement issued here, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari while demanding immediate assembly elections here said that “People should not be deprived of their political empowerment, in terms of their right to elect their own government in J&K.” He added, “During our ongoing public outreach campaign, I have observed that people desperately want to elect their own representatives to form a government here.”

Waqf properties 'misappropriated' brazenly on behest of pol leaders: Dr Darkhshan Andrabi

Srinagar , August 11 : Chairperson, J&K Waqf Board, Dr.DarkhshanAndrabi on Thursday said few vested interested elements who grabbed Waqf properties and those political leaders who patronized them are “cancer for a society”. She said such elements have made the Waqf empty inside with their brazen misappropriation. Dr.Andrabi was speaking over the visit to Jammu and Poonch where she took a detailed review of Waqf operations recently.
