AAP slams BJP for justifying non-local voters in J&K Jammu , August 28 : Senior AAP leader and former minister Harsh Dev Singh on Sunday accused the BJP of misrepresenting and misinterpreting Representation of Peoples Act (RPA) to justify inclusion of non-local voters in Jammu and Kashmir. Singh, a lawyer by profession, claimed that sec-19 RPA Act nowhere states that a person can get registered himself as a voter outside his parent State or Union Territory merely on the ground that he is ordinarily residing there. Amid a major controversy over inclusion of non-locals in the revised electoral rolls in J&K, the BJP had said that under law anyone who is citizen of India and not barred by any law can choose to be a voter in any area, state or Union Territory where he or she may ordinarily reside.
Abdullah appears before special court in PMLA case, granted bail Srinagar , August 28 : National Conference president Farooq Abdullah on Saturday appeared before a special court which granted him bail in a money laundering case related to the alleged financial irregularities in the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA). The Principal District and Sessions Judge here had in July taken cognisance of a charge sheet filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the case and summoned him. The court will now hear arguments on the framing of charges on September 26.
Azad will lead A-Team of BJP: G A Mir Srinagar , August 28 : Senior Congress leader G A Mir on Sunday described the leaders who left the Congress following Ghulam Nabi Azads resignation from the party as the A-Team of the BJP. Azad would meet the same fate as ex-Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh, said the former president of the Congress Jammu and Kashmir unit at a press conference here. He was flanked by Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee president Viqar Rasool and other party leaders.
Azad hand in glove with BJP over abrogation of Art-370: Altaf Bukhari Srinagar , August 28 : Hitting hard on former CM of J&K, GhulamNabi Azad, who recently resigned from Congress party, the AP president Altaf Bukhari said Azad was hand in glove with BJP over abrogation of Article 370 and 35(A). He said the former Congress leader struck a hidden deal with the BharatiyaJanata Party (BJP) and held him responsible for stripping down the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.Bukhari, who was addressing a public meeting in south Kashmir’s Bijbehara, said Azad is directly responsible for abrogation of Article 370.
Ghulam Nabi Azad to make announcement of new party within 14 days, claims Taj Mohiuddin Srinagar , August 28 : Former Jammu and Kashmir minister Taj Mohiuddin, who quit the party today and joined Ghulam Nabi Azad-led front said that they will form their own party and will make an announcement within 14 days. He also said that the party led by Ghulam Nabi Azad will be open to coalition with Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Addressing a press conference Mohiuddin said, "We will form our own party and will make an announcement within 14 days.
