3 Militants Killed In Encounter With Security Forces In Kashmir's Anantnag10 July 2021
Srinagar: Three militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday afternoon. The encounter took place in the Kawarigam area of Anantnag. The militants were killed in a joint operation conducted by the Indian Army, the J&K Police and the Central Reserve Police Force. Two of them had recently been recruited by the Lash-e-Taiba (LeT). Sources said the encounter broke out in a village while the security forces were acting on a tip-off about presence of militants there. As the area where they were suspected to be hiding was being cordoned off, the militants started firing at the security forces. The trio was killed following a brief gunfight. This encounter comes two days after five militants were killed in three separate encounters in Kulgam and Pulwama districts of J&K within 24 hours. The three militants -Arif Hajam, Basit Rashid Ganai and Suhail Mushtaq Bhat-have been identified to be members of the Lashkar-e-Taiba. While Arif andBasit were residents of Anantnag, Suhail was from Pulwama. Sources say Arif Hajam joined LeT in September 2018. He was reportedly involved in recruiting the youth in Anantnag for the terror outfit. Arif Hajam is said to have been involved in several attacks on civilians as well the security forces. He was also reportedly involved in providing arms and ammunition to his associate Javid Ahmed, a resident of Anantnag. An FIR under UAPA was filed against him for this. Meanwhile, Basit Ganai joined the terror outfit April 18 this year. Sources say he was involved in the killing of two civilians of Jablipra, Bijbehara on May 29. The third militant killed today, Suhail Mushtaq Bhat joined LeT on June 9 this year. He was reportedly involved in the conspiracy to attack BJP workers in Anantnag district.
