Kashmiri Journalists To PCI Team: We Work In An Extremely Hostile Environment

2021-10-15: Kashmiri journalists told a three member fact-finding committee of Press Council of India (PCI) on October 15 that they are working in an extremely hostile environment and asked the PCI to intervene and ensure better conditions. The team arrived here on October 13 to probe the intimidation and harassment of journalists in Jammu and Kashmir. The panel comprises group editor of Dainik Bhaskar Prakash Dubey, New Indian Express journalist Gurbir Singh and editor of Jan Morcha Suman Gupta.

Seven Soldiers Killed In Five-day-long Anti-militancy Operation

2021-10-15: Two more soldiers have lost their lives in the five-day-long anti-militancy operation in Jammu's Pir Panjal area, taking the army casualties to seven and making it one of the deadliest operations in a long time. The army on Friday said it lost two riflemen overnight in the operation that began on Monday morning after reports that some militants were hiding in the area. Advertisement Jammu-based defence spokesman Lt Col Devender Anand identified the slain soldiers as riflemen Vikram Singh Negi, 26, and Yogambar Singh, 27, from Uttarakhand.

Chrungoo Takes Up Issue Of Selected Killings In Kashmir With UNHRC

2021-10-15: : Senior BJP leader, Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo Friday said that he has taken up the issue of selective killings of minorities with the United Nations Human Rights Council. In a statement, issued to Kashmir News Service (KNS) he said that in memorandum missive to the president of the UNHRC, Geneva, Nuzhat Shameem he has stated that last year also they had brought up the issue of killings of political grassroots representatives and other minority community members in the valley to their notice. 'We earnestly request the hon'ble Council to view this whole issue in perspective of the continued ethnic cleansing of Hindus and Sikhs in the valley.'

Security Forces Bust Hideout; Arms And Ammunition Recovered

2021-10-15: Security forces have busted a hideout and recovered arms and ammunition in Jammu and Kashmir's Reasi district, officials said on Friday. On a tip-off, a search operation was carried out in Rahwali Nari of Mahore tehsil in the district on Thursday, they said, adding a hideout where arms and ammunition was dumped was busted. One AK-47 rifle, one magazine, cartridges of AK-47, an under barrel grenade launcher (UBGL), hand grenades and a walkie-talkie were recovered, the officials said.

Two Army Personnel Killed In Encounter With Terrorists In Poonch

2021-10-15: Two Army personnel were killed in an encounter with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district, officials said on Friday. The operation is still going on in a forested area in the district's Mendhar sub-division, they said. 'In an ongoing counter-terrorism operation in the general area of Nar Khas forest in Mendhar sub-division there was an exchange of fire between army troops and terrorists during the evening hours of Thursday,' a defence public relation officer (PRO) said.

President Interacts With Troops Of Army's Northern Command At Udhampur

2021-10-15: Reaching out to the Army's Northern Command troops looking after the operational area of Jammu and Kashmir, President Ram Nath Kovind broke away from tradition and had 'bada Khana' with the soldiers and their families here on the occasion of Mahanavami, the culmination of the nine-day-long Navratri, on Thursday. The president began his visit to the region on Thursday from the Union Territory of Ladakh, where he performed the Sindhu Darshan puja at the Sindhu Ghat in Leh, officials said. The Sindhu riverbank, known for its beautiful and scenic landscape, is situated near Shey village in Leh and is hosting a multitude of cultural programmes, including the Sindhu Darshan festival.

Devotees Not Allowed To Offer Friday Prayers At Jamia Masjid By J-K Authorities

2021-10-15: The managing body of Srinagar's historic Jamia Masjid on Friday claimed that authorities did not allow congregational prayers there by deploying security forces in large numbers. In a statement, the Anjuman Auqaf Jamia Masjid also said that police personnel 'forced' employees to close all gates of the mosque and no 'namazis' (devotees) were allowed inside. 'Authorities did not allow congregational Friday prayers to be held at the Jamia Masjid Srinagar today.

Militant Part Of Civilian Killings In Srinagar Gunned Down In Encounter At Pulwama

2021-10-15: Police on Friday confirmed death of a militant associated with the recent civilian killings in Srinagar in an encounter with security forces in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir . After being tipped off on the presence of militants in the Wahibug area of Pulwama, the Security forces kaunched a cordon and search operation. Police said the search operation turned into an encounter in which one militant was killed.
